The Blue Seal Turbofan is the convection oven in a very large share of Australian cafés and bakeries. It is made by Moffat, which manufactures and supports commercial equipment in Australia and New Zealand, and it is built to run all day.
When it does play up, it shows very few codes. Most of what goes wrong has no code at all, and a good share of it can be fixed without a technician. National Appliance Repairs services Blue Seal commercial equipment across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. This guide is built on Moffat’s own fault-finding tables for the Turbofan 30D digital series, which includes the E31D4, the E32D5 and the gas G32D5.
The codes on the display
Err 001: oven probe error
The temperature probe inside the oven has failed or is reading incorrectly, so the controller cannot regulate the cavity. Moffat’s instruction is to call for service.
Err 003: depends on your model
This is where many online answers go wrong. Moffat’s manuals give it two different meanings:
- In the E32D5 manual, Err 003 is a digital input error.
- In the newer 30D series manual, which also covers the gas G32D5, Err 003 is the burner box thermal overload switch tripping.
Both call for service. Tell your technician the exact model from the data plate, because the two point to different parts.
CP flashing, alarm sounding, program paused
The oven is running a program that uses the core temperature probe, and the probe is not connected. Plug the core probe into the control panel. If it is connected and CP persists, the core probe itself is faulty and needs replacing. Staff can fix this one.
Faults you can check before calling
These come straight from Moffat’s tables, and each takes a minute.
- The oven does nothing at all: Check the mains isolating switch, circuit breaker and fuses. If there are no lights at all, not even the power light, the over-temperature cut-out may have tripped, and that needs a technician.
- Gas models: the igniter sparks three times but no flame lights: Check the gas supply is on, then turn the oven off and on again to reset the ignition control. The same reset applies if the ignition control has gone into lock-out.
- The door won’t close fully: A tray sitting in the way, a misaligned door, or a door seal not seated properly. Reposition the tray, realign the door, or refit the seal as the cleaning section of the manual describes.
- The oven light is out: Replace the bulb. If it still will not light, call for service.
Uneven cooking is usually not a fault
This is the most common Turbofan complaint, and Moffat’s list of causes is mostly operational:
- Temperature set too high: Select a lower temperature.
- Oven or racks not level: Check both.
- Not enough air space around trays: Space the racks so air can move around the product on every shelf.
- Too much product loaded: Reload with less.
- Opening the door unnecessarily: Keep it closed during baking.
- A damaged or faulty door seal: Check it and replace if needed.
- A restricted oven vent: Make sure it is not blocked or covered.
A convection oven depends on air moving freely. Overloaded trays, trays jammed edge to edge, or a vent covered by something on the shelf above will produce patchy results in a perfectly healthy oven. If you have worked through that list and the results are still uneven, the thermostat or probe calibration may have drifted. Our guide to testing oven temperature accuracy shows how to check it with a thermometer.
Faults that need a technician
| Symptom | Likely cause | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Err 001 | Oven temperature probe | Technician |
| Err 003 | Digital input (E32D5) or burner box thermal overload (30D gas) | Technician |
| Controller on, no heat | Door switch, heating relay, element or controller | Technician |
| Heats but the fan does not run | Fan motor, or fan obstructed | Technician |
| No steam | Blocked injector nozzle, water solenoid or controller | Technician |
| No lights at all after checking the power | Over-temperature cut-out tripped or faulty | Technician |
| CP persists with the probe connected | Faulty core probe | Replace the probe |
A fan that stops while the elements keep heating is worth treating as urgent. Without airflow, a convection oven overheats its product and its own cavity quickly. Switch it off.
Before you call
Moffat asks for the model and serial number, found on the technical data plate on the front right-hand side panel of the oven. Have both, plus the exact code or symptom and whether it is gas or electric.

What does Err 001 mean on a Turbofan oven?
An oven probe error. The temperature probe has failed or is misreading, and Moffat says to call for service.
What does Err 003 mean on a Turbofan oven?
It depends on the model. Moffat’s E32D5 manual lists it as a digital input error. The newer 30D series manual, which covers the gas G32D5, lists it as the burner box thermal overload switch tripping. Both need service.
What does CP mean on a Turbofan?
The running program needs the core temperature probe, and it is not connected. Plug it in. If CP continues with the probe connected, the probe is faulty.
Why is my Turbofan cooking unevenly?
Usually loading and airflow: overloaded trays, too little space around them, racks not level, a blocked vent, or the door being opened too often. A damaged door seal also causes it.
How do I reset a gas Turbofan that won’t light?
Check the gas supply is on, then turn the oven off and on to reset the ignition control. If it still will not light, call for service.
The short version
A Blue Seal Turbofan has three codes worth knowing. Err 001 is the probe. Err 003 means different things on different models, so quote the model. CP is a core probe that is not plugged in, which your staff can fix.
Most other problems, including uneven baking, a door that will not close and a gas oven that will not light, have checks listed in Moffat’s own tables. National Appliance Repairs services Blue Seal Turbofan ovens nationally, with priority commercial scheduling. Enquire about commercial services or call your nearest office.
