Integrated Dishwasher Installation
Levelled | Panel Fitted | Water, Drain and Power Connected Properly
An integrated dishwasher disappears into your kitchen. That is the point of it, and it is also why installation matters more than on any freestanding machine. It has to fit the cavity exactly, sit perfectly level, carry a cabinet door on its own door, and connect to water, drainage and power through the cabinet beside it.
Get any of that wrong and the dishwasher leaks, will not drain, or will not close cleanly. National Appliance Repairs installs integrated dishwashers across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth as part of our appliance installation service.

Two Styles
Fully Integrated or Semi-Integrated
Both need the same care in fitting. The difference is how much of the door panel has to line up with the cabinetry around it.
Fully integrated
Completely hidden. The controls sit on the top edge of the door, visible only when it is open, and a cabinet panel covers the entire front.
Semi-integrated
Shows the control panel across the top of the door, with the cabinet panel fitted below it.

What’s Included
Every integrated dishwasher installation covers the same ground, whether it is replacing a machine or going into a new cavity.
What’s included:
- Checking the cavity dimensions against the dishwasher’s specifications
- Levelling the machine on its adjustable feet
- Fitting the cabinet door panel supplied with your cabinetry, and adjusting the door balance to its weight
- Fitting the steam protection strip under the benchtop, where the model supplies one
- Connecting the water supply, the drain and the power
- Confirming the sink waste connection is open before the first cycle
- A test cycle, checking for leaks and a clean drain
- Removing your old dishwasher
The Three Connections
| Connection | Where it goes | Who connects it |
|---|---|---|
| Water supply | To an isolation tap in the cabinet beside the dishwasher | Existing tap: connected at installation. New tap or supply line: licensed plumber |
| Drain | Into the sink waste, with the hose looped high under the benchtop | Existing waste connection: connected at installation. New waste connection: licensed plumber |
| Power | A power point in the cabinet beside the dishwasher, not behind it | Existing power point: plugged in. New power point: licensed electrician |
The power point, water tap and waste connection belong in the adjacent cabinet, with the hoses and cable passing through an opening in the cabinet side. A power point hidden behind the dishwasher cannot be reached to isolate the machine without pulling it out.
If your kitchen has never had a dishwasher:
- The water, drain and power connections do not exist yet
- Installing them is licensed plumbing and electrical work

Why Level Matters So Much
An integrated dishwasher that sits even slightly out of level does not seal properly at the door. Water finds its way past the seal during the wash, runs down into the base tray, and trips the flood protection float. The machine then shuts itself down with a flood code, and a brand-new dishwasher appears faulty.
Levelling also decides whether the door panel lines up with the drawers and doors around it. A panel that sits proud or crooked catches on neighbouring cabinetry every time the door opens.
The door panel and door balance:
- The cabinet panel adds weight to the door, and different panels weigh different amounts
- Set too light the door drops open; set too heavy it springs shut — both wear the hinges
Installation Mistakes We Fix
These are faults we are called out to repair that started at installation.
The dishwasher was never able to drain
On new builds and renovations, the knockout inside the sink waste spigot sometimes never gets punched through. The dishwasher cannot drain from its first cycle.
No high loop in the drain hose
Without it, dirty water can siphon back into the dishwasher.
Out of level
Door seal leaks and flood protection shutdowns.
Kinked hoses
Pushed back into the cavity carelessly, the inlet or drain hose folds and restricts flow.
Power point behind the machine
No way to isolate it in an emergency.
Steam strip missing
Hot steam from the opening door damages the underside of timber and laminate benchtops over time.

Replacing a Freestanding Dishwasher With an Integrated One
This usually involves more than the dishwasher. Your cabinetry needs a door panel made to suit the model, and the cavity has to match its dimensions.
We install integrated dishwashers from the major brands in Australian kitchens, including Bosch, Miele, Smeg and Fisher & Paykel, following each manufacturer’s installation instructions.
The order to do it in:
- Speak to your cabinetmaker about the door panel first
- Then send us the dishwasher model number so we can check the space

Before anything is fitted, we check what the new appliance needs against what is already there: the cabinet cut-out, clearances, the electrical supply, the gas type and connection, and the water and drainage. Most installation problems are decided at this step.
Agree the price
You get a clear quote covering the installation and anything the site needs to accept the new appliance. Nothing proceeds without your approval.
Install and connect
The appliance is fitted and levelled to the manufacturer’s specifications. Gas and hardwired electrical connections are made by appropriately licensed trades and certified.

FAQS
Integrated Dishwasher Installation Questions
Do I need a plumber to install an integrated dishwasher?
If your kitchen already has a dishwasher isolation tap and waste connection, those are connected during installation. If they do not exist, installing them is licensed plumbing work.
Where should the power point for a dishwasher be?
In the cabinet beside the dishwasher, not behind it, so the machine can be switched off and unplugged without pulling it out.
Why is my new integrated dishwasher leaking from the door?
Most often it is not level, so the door does not seal. It can also be a door panel that is too heavy for the door balance setting. Both are installation issues, not faults with the machine.
Can you fit the door panel from my cabinetmaker?
Yes. We fit the cabinet door panel supplied with your cabinetry and adjust the door balance to suit its weight.
Do you take the old dishwasher away?
Yes. We remove your old dishwasher when we install the new one.
