Search “Fisher & Paykel dryer E2” and you will find two answers that contradict each other. One set of sites calls it a condensate pump failure. Another calls it an outlet thermistor short circuit, a temperature sensor and a completely different repair. There is a reason for that, worth understanding before you order a part. National Appliance Repairs services Fisher & Paykel dryers across five capitals, and this is the brand where the gap between what owners find online and what the machine is telling them is widest.

Your dryer speaks two different languages

Fisher & Paykel dryers sold in Australia and New Zealand separate their messages into two categories, and they are not interchangeable.

  • User warnings are problems you are expected to fix. The dryer beeps continuously and shows a prompt, and every one is described in the user guide with a specific action.
  • Fault codes are problems for a technician. The dryer beeps, the control panel lights go out, and the word “Fault” appears followed by a number.

F&P’s guidance for a fault code is direct: record the number and the serial number, then call a trained service technician. The company does not publish what the numbers mean in consumer documentation. The code exists to tell the technician where to look before arriving.

That is why the online tables disagree. They are drawn from service documents spanning different control platforms and model generations, and none match the display on a current Australian F&P dryer.

The warnings you can clear yourself

These prompts account for most calls that turn out not to need a technician.

Clear the cause and the dryer carries on. A warning that keeps returning after you have addressed it is a service call.

The cold laundry problem, which is specific to Australia

The room temperature warning deserves its own mention because it catches people out every winter.

Heat pump dryers extract heat from the air around them. Below roughly 5°C the system cannot work efficiently, and F&P documents this in its heat pump dryer guides. An unheated garage in Melbourne, an outdoor laundry in Adelaide or a south-facing utility room in Perth can all sit under that threshold on winter mornings.

The symptom is not a breakdown. Cycles run long, clothes come out damp, and the machine may report that maximum cycle time was reached. Nothing has failed. The dryer is working outside its design conditions. If your dryer sits in an unheated space and the problem is seasonal, rule this out before booking anyone.

Why a Fisher & Paykel dryer takes too long

This is the most common complaint we attend on F&P condensing and heat pump models, and it usually has nothing to do with the heating system.

  • Filters blocked: Restricted airflow lengthens every cycle. Clean the door filter before every load.
  • Dryer overloaded: Some cycles have lower maximum load sizes than the machine’s rated capacity. Split the load.
  • Load too wet going in: A faster spin on the washer removes water far more cheaply than a dryer does.
  • Room too hot, too cold, or unventilated: F&P specifies a well-ventilated, dust-free environment and warns against running the dryer behind a closed cupboard door.
  • Drain not clearing: If the machine cannot remove condensate, drying stalls.
  • Moisture sensors dirty: The sensing cycle measures the conductivity of the tumbling load. F&P recommends wiping the metal sensors behind the lint filter roughly four times a year with a soft cloth dampened with vinegar.

That last one is the tip almost nobody knows, and it costs nothing.

One thing worth knowing about warranty

Fisher & Paykel supplies a two year manufacturer’s warranty on parts and labour in Australia and New Zealand. It does not cover poor drying performance caused by a blocked lint filter, a blocked condenser or a full water tank, and it does not cover normal maintenance.

So if a technician attends and finds a filter packed with lint, that visit is chargeable. Ten minutes of maintenance before you book is worth doing. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of this, regardless of what any manufacturer warranty says.

When to book a technician

Book when the display shows “Fault” and a number, when a warning keeps returning after you have cleared its cause, when the dryer will not power on, or when the drum will not turn.

Have the fault number and serial number ready. The serial number is on the rear of the machine, or inside the door below the glass. Quoting both lets our office team check whether the likely part is already in the van, which is often the difference between one visit and two.

Our heat pump dryer repairs and general dryer repair service cover Fisher & Paykel vented, condensing and heat pump models. Call the nearest NAR service center to you for quick repair – all of our repairs carry a 12-month parts warranty and a 3-month labour warranty, and there is no second call-out fee if a part has to be ordered.

For codes on the washer side of the range, our guide to Fisher & Paykel washing machine error codes covers Err 37, Err 75, Error 105 and Error 136 with component resistance values.

Frequently asked questions

What does E2 mean on a Fisher & Paykel dryer?

It depends entirely on the model and control platform, and F&P does not publish a consumer code table. Australian F&P dryers display faults as the word “Fault” followed by a number. If you are seeing a two-character code, check your model’s manual and treat any table you find online with caution.

Why does my Fisher & Paykel dryer show a fault code with no explanation?

By design. F&P intends the number to be read by a technician. Record it with the serial number when you call, because it narrows the diagnosis before anyone arrives.

Why does my F&P dryer say the water tank is full when I just emptied it?

Usually the tank is not seated correctly, or something is blocking the path between the condenser and the tank. If the dryer is plumbed in, check the drain hose is attached, unkinked and clear.

Can I run a Fisher & Paykel condensing dryer without the water tank?

No. F&P states the dryer should never be run without the tank in place unless the drain hose has been installed and connected to a drain.

How often should I clean the condenser filter?

Whenever the condenser filter indicator flashes at the start of a cycle. Cleaning the door lint filter before every load is separate, and it is a fire safety requirement, not just a performance one.

The short version

Fisher & Paykel dryers tell you two different kinds of thing. Warnings come with instructions and you can act on them. Fault codes come with a number and are meant for a technician, which is why the code tables you find online do not agree with each other.

Before booking anything, clean both filters, empty the water tank and check the room is not too cold. That sequence resolves a large share of the calls we take on this brand. If the dryer still shows a fault, National Appliance Repairs services F&P dryers across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Book online or call your nearest office with the code and serial number.
