Maytag Washing Machines & Laundry Appliances Repair | National Appliance Repairs

Maytag built its name on dependability -- since 1893, the brand has meant reliable laundry appliances. Top-load and front-load washing machines, commercial coin-operated units, dryers, washer-dryer combinations, and stacked laundry systems. When a Maytag stops working, families are stranded. When a commercial Maytag in a laundromat breaks, business stops.

We've been repairing Maytag appliances for 15+ years. We understand American engineering and how these machines are built to last. A broken transmission doesn't mean replace the whole washer. A stuck drain pump doesn't mean buy new. We fix Maytag appliances.

About Maytag Laundry Appliances

Maytag: 130+ Years of American Laundry Engineering

The story starts in 1893 in Newton, Iowa. F.L. Maytag and three partners founded the company to manufacture farm equipment. By 1907, they built their first clothes washer. The design worked so well that in 1919, Maytag discontinued farm equipment entirely and focused on washing machines.

By the late 1950s, Maytag expanded into commercial laundry. They began manufacturing washers and dryers for self-service laundromats and commercial operators. That commercial experience -- knowing how machines fail under heavy daily use -- shaped decades of product improvements. Maytag understood wear patterns that domestic machines never face.

In 1949, Maytag opened a dedicated factory to build automatic washers. By the 1950s, the brand had captured a significant market share. Over the decades, Maytag added dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, and ranges -- but laundry remained the core business. The company's tagline became "One Dependability Square," referring to their Newton, Iowa headquarters.

Maytag was acquired by Whirlpool in 2006. Today, Whirlpool manufactures Maytag washing machines and dryers across several U.S. facilities including Louisville, Kentucky. The brand remains available in Australia through appliance retailers and specialist commercial laundry suppliers.

Common Maytag Washing Machine Problems

Washer Won't Drain

Drain pump blockage, hose kink, or pump motor failure. Debris accumulates in the pump over years -- lint, coins, buttons. When the pump motor finally fails, water sits in the tub. On front-loaders, a failed drain can cause mold and odor problems.

Transmission Failure or Slipping

Worn clutch, broken transmission gears, or damaged transmission seal. On top-loaders with agitators, the transmission transfers power to spin and agitate. After 10+ years of use, the clutch wears out. The washer will agitate but won't spin, or won't agitate properly.

Lid/Door Won't Lock or Release

Broken switch, jammed latch mechanism, or broken hinge. On top-loaders, a faulty lid switch prevents the wash cycle from starting. On front-loaders, a stuck door latch traps clothes inside.

Excessive Vibration or Noise

Drum bearing wear, foreign object in the tub, worn felt seal, or unbalanced load. Commercial Maytag units handling hundreds of loads per month wear bearings faster than domestic models.

Washer Won't Fill with Water

Inlet valve malfunction, clogged inlet screen, or water level sensor fault. Cold and hot water solenoids control flow. A failed solenoid stops one or both from opening. On electronic models, a bad water level sensor tells the machine it's full when it's not.

Drum Won't Spin

Broken belt, worn pulley, failed motor, or transmission issue. The drum relies on a belt and pulley system (top-loaders) or direct motor drive (front-loaders). A broken belt stops rotation immediately.

Leaking Water

Failed seal (top-loaders), deteriorated door gasket (front-loaders), cracked tub, or loose inlet connection. Seals wear gradually. A slow leak becomes a flood over months.

Control Panel or Electronic Issues

Failed control board, broken button, or software glitch. Newer Maytag models use electronic controls. A power surge can fry the board.

Our Solution for Maytag Appliances

National Appliance Repairs has deep experience with Maytag engineering across both domestic and commercial models. We stock common replacement parts including drain pumps, inlet valves, seals, gaskets, belts, pulleys, and clutches. For specialized components, we source them quickly from Maytag suppliers.

We service top-load agitator models, front-load designs, and commercial coin-operated equipment. We understand the difference between a transmission that needs replacement and one that can be serviced. We know when a seal failure means the whole drum needs replacement versus when a gasket will fix it.

Maytag washers are built to be serviceable. Parts are accessible. Repairs don't require days. A drain pump swap takes an hour. A transmission clutch replacement takes two to three hours. We work efficiently without compromising quality.

FAQS

Answers to Your Repair Questions

How long does a typical Maytag washing machine repair take?

Most repairs -- drain pump swap, inlet valve replacement, belt change, hose repair -- take 1 to 3 hours. Transmission work or major seal replacement may take 3 to 5 hours.

Can you repair older Maytag models?

Yes. We service Maytag washers from the 1990s onward. Parts availability is good because Maytag machines are long-lived and parts are standardized across model years.

What's the difference between a Maytag top-load and front-load repair?

Top-loaders use agitator and transmission systems. Front-loaders use drum seals and direct drive motors. The repair approach differs, but both are straightforward. Front-loaders tend to develop seal leaks; top-loaders tend to have transmission wear.

Are Maytag parts expensive?

No. Maytag is a Whirlpool brand, and parts are competitively priced. A drain pump costs $150--$300. A seal kit costs $100--$250. Compare that to the cost of a new washer ($800--$2,000) and repair makes sense.

Do you repair Maytag commercial laundry equipment?

Yes. We service coin-operated and stacked Maytag units. Commercial equipment takes heavier daily use, but repair principles are the same.

Why is my Maytag washing machine leaking?

Top-loaders leak from the seal between the tub and agitator. Front-loaders leak from the door gasket or from the drum bearing seal. We diagnose where the water is coming from and replace the failed component.

How long should a Maytag washing machine last?

Properly maintained, 10--15 years for domestic models. Commercial Maytag units, even with heavy use, last 8--12 years before major repairs are needed. The brand was built on durability.

What if the repair cost is high?

Is it worth fixing? For Maytag washers less than 10 years old, repair almost always makes financial sense. A $500 repair versus a $2,000 replacement is an easy choice. For machines older than 15 years, we'll give you honest advice about whether repair or replacement makes sense.
