About Alliance Laundry Systems

Alliance Laundry Systems was formed in February 1998 when private equity firm Bain Capital acquired the commercial laundry business from Raytheon for $358 million. The company traces its heritage to 1908, when Joe Barlow and John Seelig founded Barlow & Seelig Manufacturing in Ripon, Wisconsin. In 1922, Speed Queen was the first company to introduce washers with nickel-copper tubs. The Speed Queen brand name itself was created in 1928.

Today, Alliance Laundry Systems serves more than 140 countries with a team of more than 3,500 employees. The company operates five distinct brands, each designed for different market segments and customer needs. Together they offer commercial washing machines, dryers, and ironers with load capacities ranging from 12 to 400 pounds.

The Five Brands

Speed Queen

is the flagship brand, synonymous with commercial laundry reliability. Its machines set the standard in laundromats and on-premises laundry worldwide. With over a century of proven performance, Speed Queen is the choice for operators who demand durability and lowest total cost of ownership.

UniMac

targets hospitality, healthcare, and institutional laundry. These machines combine simplicity with lasting performance, offering on-premises laundry solutions for hotels, hospitals, firehouse facilities, and similar operations.

Huebsch

focuses on laundromat profitability, helping owners maximize returns with smart laundry solutions and advanced management systems.

Primus

serves European markets with commercial washing machines, dryers, and flatwork ironers -- equipment designed for the demanding industrial laundry sector.

IPSO

rounds out the portfolio, offering specialized solutions across multiple market segments.

What We Repair

National Appliance Repairs handles the full range of Alliance equipment across all five brands:

Washing Machines

  • E
Top-load and front-load extractors, hardmount and softmount designs, single and stacked configurations. We diagnose issues with motors, pumps, valves, tub seals, electrical controls, and transmission systems.

Dryers

  • E
Single tumble dryers, stack dryers, and indirect-heat systems. We repair heating elements, thermostats, venting systems, gas controls, cylinder assemblies, and airflow problems.

Flatwork Ironers

  • E
Commercial pressing equipment used in laundries, hotels, and institutional settings. We service steam systems, roll pressure, conveyor mechanisms, and control boards.

Controls & Electrical Systems

  • E
Payment systems, cycle controls, Quantum™ controls, ProCapture™ data systems, and remote management interfaces. These machines increasingly depend on smart technology.

Water & Gas Systems

  • E
Supply valves, drain systems, gas ignition controls, and line pressure regulation.

Common Problems with Alliance Equipment

Washer won't drain or drains slowly

  • E
Blockages in drain lines, failed pump motors, kinked hoses, or control valve failures. More common in machines running heavy soil loads continuously.

Dryer not heating

  • E
Gas ignition issues, thermostat failure, or thermal cutoff tripped. With indirect-heat dryers, steam line blockage or condensate problems.

Machine vibrates excessively

  • E
Unbalanced loads, worn suspension springs, broken drum bearings, or loose internal components. Heavy-duty commercial use accelerates wear.

Control panel unresponsive

  • E
Electrical shorts, failed circuit boards, water damage to electronics, or coin/card reader malfunction. Alliance's smart systems are robust, but power surges can damage them.

Pressure and flow issues

  • E
Water supply problems, failed fill valves, or kinked inlet lines. Gas-heated dryers require proper gas line pressure.

Rust and corrosion

  • E
Stainless steel components last longer, but water-exposed areas can corrode if not properly maintained. Salt and minerals accelerate degradation.

FAQS

Answers to Your Repair Questions

How quickly can you repair Alliance equipment?

Same-day service is available for most repairs across our service areas. We carry common parts in stock (fill valves, thermostats, pump seals) and can often source specialized components within 24 hours. For emergency calls, we prioritize rapid diagnosis and stabilization.

Do you repair all five Alliance brands equally well?

Yes. Speed Queen, UniMac, Huebsch, Primus, and IPSO all share similar engineering principles. While each brand has unique control systems and design details, our technicians are trained on all of them.

What's the typical cost of a repair?

Depends on the component and labor. A water fill valve replacement runs $250--400 including parts and labor. A motor replacement, $500--800. A control board, $600--1,200. We provide a transparent estimate before we start work.

Can you repair smart controls and data systems?

Yes. Quantum™ Controls, ProCapture™, and remote management interfaces are becoming standard on newer Alliance machines. We can diagnose control failures, replace circuit boards, and reset payment systems. For complex software issues, we consult directly with Alliance technical support.

How often should commercial laundry equipment be serviced?

Preventive maintenance extends life significantly. We recommend quarterly inspections for machines running 6+ days per week, including seal checks, bearing inspection, and electrical continuity testing. Heavy-use facilities benefit from annual bearing and motor servicing.

Is it better to repair or replace a 10+ year old washer?

Depends on the failure. If it's a component failure (motor, pump, valve), repair makes sense if the machine frame and drum are sound. If it's a transmission failure on a 12-year-old unit, replacement might offer better long-term value. We'll evaluate honestly and recommend the right path.

Do you handle installation of new Alliance equipment?

We don't sell new machines, but we coordinate with distributors and can oversee installation of replacement equipment in your facility. We ensure proper setup and commissioning.
