Viking Professional Ranges & Cooktops Repair | National Appliance Repairs

Viking invented the professional-style range for the home. In 1987, Fred Carl designed the first commercial-grade range for his wife -- powerful, precise, built to last. Forty years later, Viking ranges deliver restaurant-quality performance with up to eight burners, dual convection ovens, VariSimmer™ technology for delicate simmering, and TruConvec™ air circulation. Iconic red control knobs. American manufacturing. Engineered to last 20+ years.

When a Viking range stops heating, cooking stops. When burners won't ignite or flame is weak, meal prep fails. When convection ovens lose temperature control, baking results suffer. We've been repairing Viking cooking appliances for 15+ years. We understand professional-grade engineering applied to home kitchens.

About Viking Professional Ranges

Viking: 40 Years of American Professional Cooking

The story begins in 1984 in Greenwood, Mississippi. Fred Carl, a building contractor, designed a commercial-style range for his wife -- someone who shared his passion for cooking. Fred wanted a range that combined the power and precision of restaurant equipment with elegant home kitchen design.

In January 1987, the first Viking Range launched. It was revolutionary -- a professional-grade range for residential use. Before Viking, homeowners had no options. They had to choose between domestic ranges with limited performance or attempt to shoehorn commercial equipment into home kitchens.

Viking changed that. The Professional series featured dual-stacked sealed burners, precision convection ovens, VariSimmer™ technology for controlled simmering, and the iconic red control knobs that became synonymous with the brand. Serious home cooks -- and professional chefs using home kitchens -- embraced Viking immediately.

Over decades, Viking expanded. The company added Designer series (less expensive), Professional 5 and 7 series (advanced features), Tuscany collection (Italian styling), and now modular integrated products. In 2013, Middleby Corporation (the world's largest commercial kitchen equipment manufacturer) acquired Viking and invested heavily in innovation and manufacturing.

Today, Viking ranges are still manufactured in Greenwood, Mississippi. The company employs over 1,000 people at four manufacturing facilities in Leflore County. Every range is assembled and quality-tested in-house. Viking remains committed to American manufacturing, precision engineering, and professional-grade performance.

Common Viking Range Problems

Burner Won't Ignite

Ignition module failure, spark electrode fouling, or safety valve malfunction. Viking uses electronic ignition with sealed burners. A failed module stops all sparks. Fouled electrodes (from spilled food, grease, or rust) prevent spark gap.

Oven Won't Heat or Heats Unevenly

Heating element failure, thermostat drift, or convection fan malfunction. Viking ovens use electric heating with forced-air convection. A failed element stops cooking. A drifting thermostat causes temperature swings.

Oven Door Won't Close or Seal

Hinge damage, latch wear, or gasket deterioration. Viking oven doors are heavy and precisely engineered. Over years, door sag develops. A sagging door prevents the seal, causing heat loss and baking problems.

Temperature Not Reaching Set Point

Thermostat failure, heating element problem, or insulation breakdown. If the oven won't reach temperature, either the heating element has failed or the thermostat has lost calibration.

Low or Uneven Flame

Gas flow restriction, sealed burner port clog, fuel regulator malfunction, or safety valve sticking. Hard water deposits or sediment restrict gas flow. Spilled food and grease can block sealed burner ports.

Convection Fan Not Operating

Fan motor failure, blocked vent, or control circuit fault. TruConvec™ requires the fan to circulate heat evenly. A blocked vent restricts airflow. A failed motor stops circulation.

Control Panel or Knob Issues

Broken switch contacts, failed control board, or worn knob threads. Viking's famous red knobs can wear over years of use. Control boards can fail from power surges.

VariSimmer™ or Burner Control Problems

Control circuit fault, burner valve malfunction, or ignition module issue. VariSimmer™ allows precise low-heat simmering. Problems usually trace to the control circuit or burner valve.

FAQS

Answers to Your Repair Questions

How much does a Viking range repair cost?

Diagnosis is free. Simple repairs -- ignition module ($250--$500) or thermostat replacement ($200--$400) -- are moderate. Heating element replacement ($300--$600) or control board repair ($400--$800) is more expensive. We always provide an estimate before proceeding.

Is it worth repairing a Viking range, or should I replace it?

For Viking ranges under 15 years old, repair makes financial sense. A $500--$1,000 repair versus an $8,000--$15,000 replacement is clear. Viking ranges are built to last 20+ years, so repair is the smart choice.

How long does a Viking range repair typically take?

Simple repairs -- burner swap, thermostat replacement -- take 2 to 4 hours. Oven heating element or control board work may take 4 to 6 hours.

Can you repair the iconic red knobs if they break or wear?

Yes. We source replacement knobs (red, black, or stainless steel options) and can install them. The knobs are replaceable without replacing the range.

What happens if my Viking range is under warranty?

Contact Viking directly or your appliance retailer. Manufacturer warranty covers factory defects. Our warranty covers work beyond the original coverage period.

Why does my Viking range burner flame look weak?

Gas flow restriction, sealed burner port clogging, or fuel regulator malfunction. Hard water deposits can restrict flow. Spilled food can block sealed burner ports.

How often should a Viking range be maintained?

Annual inspection is smart. We check ignition systems, burner alignment, thermostat accuracy, oven sealing, and component wear. Preventive maintenance catches issues early.

Are Viking parts expensive?

Viking components are premium-priced but reasonable compared to replacement costs. A burner assembly costs $200--$400. An ignition module costs $250--$500. Compared to an $8,000--$15,000 replacement, repair is always more affordable.
